Birds of a Feather

As we try to survive brutal winters each year, we would do well to observe our animal friends at the north and south poles. These are creatures that are designed to withstand temperatures far below what most humans can even bear. So, for example, what can we learn about cold-weather living from penguins?

That’s right – penguins. For starters, observe how they interact with each other. They are well aware that body heat is a tremendous help when it’s freezing out. So, they stand close together during the night to receive their neighbor’s body heat. They also walk very stiffly, without bending their legs or arms (okay, wings); have you ever wondered why they walk so funny? This helps them maintain balance on the slippery ice. So, perhaps we should all be more like penguins during the winter.
