A Morbid Carry-On

A personal supply of our own blood isn’t usually on our packing list when we go on vacation. However, it is for the King or Queen of England! Queen Elizabeth always traveled with bags containing a supply of her blood type, and now King Charles does the same. Although morbid, this is done as a precaution in case a medical emergency were to befall the monarch while traveling.

If the monarch is abroad, there’s no guarantee that a supply of blood will be readily available from a nearby hospital. So, the Crown brings their own supply along for the ride. Sure, the Queen didn’t personally pack a bunch of blood bags into her purse, but they were definitely always present! As a result, a doctor also travels with the monarch to ensure they get the very best treatment if necessary.
