The Queen’s Secret Code

Queen Elizabeth II was famous for carrying her signature Launer London handbag upon her arm during public appearances. However, her luxury bags were more than a fashion statement. She used her bags as a way to send coded messages to her staff! A few of her secret moves have been revealed to the press, and they’re pretty neat.

Queen Elizabeth would silently communicate her wishes by doing things like placing her handbag on the table or switching her bag from one arm to the other. For example, the Queen always carried her bag on her left arm. If she switched it to her right that meant she wanted to politely end a conversation with someone or move on to the next social interaction. We can’t imagine the mortification of talking to the Queen, only to find her handbag on her right arm!
