#4: Unconventional Jobs
Before conquering Hollywood, Whoopi embraced a range of unconventional jobs that reflected her adaptability and determination. She worked as a mortuary cosmetologist, preparing the deceased with care and respect, and as a bricklayer—a trade she learned to support herself and her daughter Alex.

Though starkly different from the spotlight, these roles gave her a strong work ethic and unique life experiences that would later inform her performances. Through these challenging jobs, she maintained her dream of acting, performing in small theater groups by night.
