#17: Pompeii

In the movie 2014 Pompeii, characters of higher social standing wear purple robes, symbolizing wealth and status in ancient Roman society. However, this portrayal is historically inaccurate as the use of purple dye was tightly regulated and reserved for the emperor and high-ranking officials.

Emperor Nero did indeed monopolize the color purple, and its unauthorized use was punishable by death. While including purple robes adds visual flair to the film, it overlooks the strict regulations surrounding using purple in ancient Rome, reflecting a common cinematic trope rather than historical accuracy.
