#35: Vintage Winnie the Pooh

Do you remember your childhood stuffed animal? Thanks to his creative dad, A.A. Milne’s son, Christopher Robin Milne, had his toys immortalized forever. These stuffed animals might look a little worse for wear, but they’re very special. They are the original stuffed animals that inspired Winnie the Pooh. Can you guess which toys inspired which characters in the beloved children’s story?

This collection of well-loved stuffed animals is housed at the New York Public Library. A.A. Milne drew inspiration for Winnie the Pooh from his son’s stuffed toy collection. Pooh Bear was based on a teddy bear he purchased at Harrod’s. You can see the inspiration for Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet, Kanga, and Roo in these old stuffed animals.
