Wax Mannequins Melting During a Heatwave, 1929

These days people can’t seem to recall a time before air conditioning was invented. Temperatures have become so hot that people can’t even imagine living without their very much-needed AC. Sure, it’s hot now, but there are certain places in the world where it has always been rather hot… What did people use to do back then?

Well, it would get so hot in some parts of the world that wax mannequins would start to physically melt. This image here depicts just how hot it must have been in this part of town during a heatwave. The fact that these wax figures are completely folding over themselves in an uncontrollable way probably means that they desperately needed air conditioning.
