A Slovenian Circus
The circus wasn’t just popular in the United States. Traveling circuses had a huge audience in Europe during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Many performers from the US would travel overseas and work the European circus as part of their careers. This photo is from a vintage circus in Slovenia.

Slovenian circuses followed the same format as their American counterparts. They employed exotic animals in their acts, such as this camel. As you can see, audience members are sitting within mere feet of the circus ring and this majestic camel. The two guys on the far left are probably a little concerned that they’re so close to the camel’s backside.
