A Retro Circus Parade
It was always a big deal when the circus came to town. The circus provided folks with an entertaining distraction from their everyday life. The novelty and spectacle were so different from what many people experienced day-to-day in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This vintage photo shows a New York City parade put on by a visiting circus.

This photo is most likely from the 1920s. New York City certainly looked a lot different back then! This parade must have been a wonder to witness. It’s not every day you get to see a large elephant walk down the main street of your city, regardless of the date. The elephants from the circus led this menagerie parade, which definitely drummed up some business. We can’t think of a better way to advertise!
