Aretha Franklin and Glynn Turman, 1978
Throughout Aretha Franklin’s successful career in the music industry, she had many romantic companions. After divorcing her former manager Ted White, whom she married at nineteen years old, Franklin married her second husband Glynn Turman. The traditional wedding ceremony took place in 1979, at her father’s church.

This musical couple co-wrote a couple of Franklin’s more notable songs together before their divorce in 1984. The separation came after Franklin cited a failed long-distance relationship due to Turman’s relocation to Michigan from California in 1982. Aretha Franklin had other relationships over the next 30 years, but never remarried after her divorce from Turman.
