Renata Blauel and Elton John, 1984
In 1984, pop star Elton John married German sound engineer Renta Blauel. The ceremony was held in Australia on Valentine’s Day. The couple met in London, while the music superstar was busy recording his comeback album Two Low For Zero, which included the hit single “Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues.” Renata wore a white silk and lace gown and a gold heart-shaped pendant featuring 63 diamonds. Elton wore a white suit and a white and purple striped shirt.

It has been said that it came as no surprise to Blauel or the people surrounding the colorful superstar when the couple divorced, and a couple of years later Elton John came out of the closet. After their divorce in 1988, Blauel virtually disappeared from the spotlight and has not spoken of the marriage since. The world-renowned singer is now married to Canadian filmmaker David Furnish.
