Whilst men were encouraged to get an education, find a good job, and learn new skills, women were encouraged to aspire towards being good and productive housewives for their husbands. And the advertisements of the time easily reflected such things…

This advertisement is trying to sell a product to women to be even more efficient with their time cleaning the house so that they can look better for their husbands. That’s right; you read that correctly… Some of these ads seem so ridiculous that it’s hard to take them seriously, but the sad part is they are all very real.
