#26: What is Even Happening Here?

Outdated and misogynist advertisements are some of the most interesting and disturbing to dissect and understand. Sure, societal expectations were very different and continuously change even today; however, we can gain a greater understanding of what was expected of men and women in society all those years ago by just looking at these ads.

To be honest, we’re not even sure what this phone company is even trying to demonstrate with this old advertisement. If they are suggesting that a man wouldn’t have been able to do a woman’s job or vice versa, they would be wrong. Sure, having a phone closer to where his wife spends most of her time would be more convenient, but not because she belongs in the kitchen to serve him and his needs.
