#39: Mr. Turkey You Are Forgiven
When it comes to respecting traditions, the American people know very well how to do so. Think about it, Thanksgiving dinner has been around as long as it has and almost all Americans manage to sit down with their families at a table filled with string beans, turkey, and cranberry sauce.

So it should come as no surprise that all presidents since the 1940s, and officially since 1989 have partaken in a ceremony in which they pardon a turkey. This turkey then goes and lives out the rest of its life at Mount Vernon, whilst every other turkey ends up on someone’s dinner table.
