Homemade gifts are the best ideas for birthdays and holidays. They can be made uniquely for the receiving individual and tend to be more thoughtful than, say, body lotion. You also feel more special when someone gives you a handmade gift because they put the time and effort into making a gift just for you.

When people demand a gift from you, it takes away the unique factor of it being a gift. One mother-in-law did precisely that when she didn’t get her gift for the Christmas exchange. Homemade items aren’t mass-produced on a fast and large scale. It’s not much of a gift when you demand the present anyway.
