Racial Profiling on Halloween
This story goes to show that profiling people based on their appearance is alive and well in the 21st century. Our storyteller has slightly tanned skin. They’re very aware of when and how they’re treated differently on their home turf of Australia. One Halloween, they decided to dress up as a self-described “bad guy.”

He wore the stereotypical cargo pants and white tank top out to trick-or-treat. The costume backfired pretty quickly because several people assumed he wasn’t dressed up at all. One older woman went so far as to chase him with a cricket bat because she thought he was trying to rob her house. Never judge a book by its cover, especially on Halloween.
