A New Custom
Halloween is a pretty big deal in the United States. However, it’s not that big of a holiday elsewhere in the world. Some people who are newly arrived in the US are kind of confused by trick-or-treating at first. It’s understandable. The concept of children walking up to a stranger’s house and asking for candy is kind of weird.

This person had a new neighbor to whom Halloween was a completely new thing. Our storyteller happened to be the very first trick-or-treater of the night, so this new neighbor was very confused. Thankfully, they were willing to improvise. They didn’t have any candy on hand, but they had a potato. Good enough!
