#40: Hilda Yolanda Mayol
The world is a cruel place sometimes. The story of Hilda Yolanda Mayol is proof of that sentiment. Mayol was only 26 years old when she ran out of the Twin Towers on the morning of September 11, 2001. She was working a shift at a ground-floor restaurant and was able to escape the building shortly after the horrific terrorist attack took place.

She probably felt incredibly lucky to have survived such a traumatic and terrifying event. However, her life would tragically end just two months later. Mayol was a passenger on the ill-fated American Airlines Flight 587, which crashed shortly after take-off from JFK Airport in New York City. All 260 people on the plane, including Mayol, died in the plane crash.
