#10: A Vicious Circle

This example just goes to show that humans ruin everything! When an area is experiencing a population of invasive animals that is out of control, the local government will oftentimes start a bounty program. The way it works is that local hunters are given permission to hunt the invasive animals. They then get compensated for each kill, but have to show the animal as proof. 

What seems like a straightforward program gets muddled by scammers pretty quickly. Instead of hunting the naturally occurring non-native animals, scammers will start illegally breeding them. Then, they’re able to turn in the bred animals for money instead of doing the work and hunting them in the wild. It’s pretty gross, but a lot of people will do anything for a quick buck. When their scam is found out, the program ends, and these scammers release their newly-bred invasive animals into the wild. As a result, the problem never gets solved.
