The Power of Friendship

High school can be hard for a number of reasons. A lot of kids have a hard time making friends because of bullying and feeling different. This story is so heartwarming because it shows how much of a difference being kind can make in someone’s life. When this storyteller began high school, they attended a mandatory workshop that encouraged them to make new friends.

This person already had an established group of friends, so they didn’t take these directions seriously. However, they noticed a girl sitting by herself at lunch and decided to approach her. They invited her to sit with their group during lunch, and they are still friends to this day! They learned later that the girl was super nervous when they talked to her that first lunch. She had just moved from the Philippines and was expecting to be bullied. Instead, a simple, friendly gesture made her feel welcomed.
