#8: Comparison Is the Thief of Joy

There’s an oft-quoted proverb that says that comparison is the thief of joy. I have found that to be true over and over in my own life. If I focus on what the people around me are doing—either in my real life or in what I see on social media—then I’m often unhappy with my own life, even if it’s going great.

I once heard someone recommend that we don’t compare ourselves with others; we only compare ourselves with ourselves. Are we working to be the best version of ourselves? Are we striving to do better than we did yesterday? Are we fulfilling the role that we can play best? Then that’s really what matters.
