#42: The Original Iron Maiden

This one blew my mind. I was sure that The Iron Maiden was an actual device used for torture in the Middle Ages. It turns out it’s more like one of those carnival shows that have fake things for the shock factor. Someone thought it would bring in tourists, and they were right!

It’s probably a good thing that this is a complete lie. Maybe the Middle Ages weren’t quite as brutal as we all tend to think. Actually, they did use some devices, such as the wheel, the brazen bull, the rack, and thumbscrews. It’s not surprising that people would believe the Iron Maiden was real!
