#15: Fortune Cookies Aren’t Chinese
In America, fortune cookies come with Chinese food, but that isn’t the case in China! The Chinese associate fortune cookies with Americans. If you Google their origin, Japan is the first country to pop up, but that’s only part of the truth.

They were invented by Makoto Hagiwara, who ran a tea house in San Francisco in 1914. He served them with the tea he sold. His establishment still exists today, and it’s called the Golden Gate Park Japanese Tea Garden. If you ever go, make sure to pay attention to your fortune!
