39. Maybe This Was a Bad Idea

It’s true; it’s really not polite to show your thumb when out and about in Iran. Unfortunately, this provides a bit of a problem for potential hitchhikers, given the fact that in places like the US, you use your thumb to try and get the attention of passing drivers so they can stop and pick you up.

But there is a solution! Because hitchhikers still exist in Iran. What you’ll have to do instead is either dribble your hand out in front of you or you can wave your arm to try and get their attention. It’s a little more overt, but it does the job.
