The Power of Pee
Long before the days of modern dental hygiene, ancient Romans kept their teeth pearly white by gargling with urine. The belief was that the ammonia in urine could help to remove stains and whiten teeth. The practice was not limited to ancient Rome, as urine was also used for dental care in other parts of the world, including China and Japan.

Urine was even used as a mouthwash in some Western countries up until the early 20th century. Other substances such as goat’s milk and crushed bones were also used to keep teeth clean and white. I bet you are feeling really thankful for your regular Colgate toothpaste now, aren’t you?
