#19: The Opioid Epidemic

The early 1990s saw an increase in opioid prescriptions from doctors. These highly addictive pain meds were touted as a consequence-free way to deal with intense pain. Doctors were practically giving out prescriptions like candy. Considering that the United States has a serious opioid crisis, we can’t say that we’re nostalgic for these lax practices.

Although doctors and dentists are stricter with their prescriptions these days, it’s too late for a lot of people. Many people are already addicted and always need to have access to these medications. If they can’t access them in a legal manner, they often resort to other unsavory methods. It’s unfortunate how decisions of the past still affect many of us today.
