Living in Denial

When we purchase health insurance, we do so with the expectation that our claims will be paid and that we’ll be able to access the care that we need. But when claims are denied, it can be frustrating and confusing, and it can leave patients with unexpected bills and financial burdens.

While not all denied claims are unwarranted, it’s clear that the high rate of denials in the ACA marketplace is a cause for concern. As patients, we need to be our own advocates and make sure that we understand our insurance policies and our rights to appeal denied claims.
