#40: You Can’t Always Get What You Want

We hate to say it, but the writing was definitely on the wall. This is a partner who already has a decision pending and is either still tossing it up or otherwise just waiting for the right moment. This smells like a strategy of “let the spark die slowly, so it feels like an inevitable breakup and not something I’ve been planning for months.”

The one thing I do have to say in her defense is that those are actually great gifts. I would love to wake up on Christmas morning and receive a day planner and mini notebook from my significant other. I’d probably even be inspired to respond with an immediate marriage proposal.
