#42: Scene From the Film Hellzapoppin’, 1941

Some scenes from movies tend to stay with you for a period of time. Films have the potential to speak to people on a very deep level, but sometimes even too deep of a level… Even though older films have a certain flair about them, that doesn’t mean that the contents didn’t frighten people when the films were first released.

The H.C. Potter film, Hellzapoppin’ was adapted from the Broadway musical “Hellzapoppin” and was very creepy, to say the least. For the time period, this film was very risque and somewhat grotesque. Even though the film is based on a lot of surreal humor, people weren’t so quick to like the film when it was first released in 1941. You might be able to tell why from this screengrab…
