#41: Ken Hair, Don’t Care

As we mentioned, Barbie had a lot of stages in the evolution of the doll, and so did her “friends” and iconic partner, Ken. The original Ken doll made its first appearance in 1961, two years after the first Barbie doll was introduced to the world. Mod Hair Ken was a 1973 version of the original Ken doll with a few upgrades.

First, it had real rooted hair, and he came with stick-on facial hair to fit the times: a mustache, a beard a sideburns. We have a suggestion for a new Ken doll, if anyone in Mattel is reading this: Star-Burns Ken! A Ken doll with star-shaped star burns, inspired by Star Burns from Community.
