These dwellings are known as dug-outs- a shelter or lodge (for humans or animals) dug into the ground. Before you go on dissing the idea, there’s a perfect explanation to this.

This form of dwelling was designed to accommodate the extreme daytime heat in this area. In order to escape the heat, it makes more sense to stay underground, where it’s shaded and cooler. I don’t think I could live underground- even if it meant living in this beautiful country. Would you agree to live underground?
