#39: Snow King Mountain Chair Lift, 1955
I can’t look at this photo without feeling a combination of nausea, levity, horror, and rage. I don’t care how primitive our technologies were. In what world could it be considered fine to send people up a mountain on a chairlift without safety measures, not a helmet or seat belt in sight?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for extreme sports and adventures like the one pictured, but this is where our contemporary reliance on rules and guidelines is justified. I sure hope this woman survived her trip up to Snow King Mountain and lived to tell the tale.
