#20: The USS Los Angeles Airship Lands on the USS Saratoga, 1928
It’s hard to see pictures of early twentieth-century airships and not think immediately of the Hindenburg explosion. Yet, if you saw this photo and immediately had a bad feeling like me, have no fear. This is a completely different airship in completely different circumstances.

Here is the USS Los Angeles landing on top of the USS Saratoga. I like the way that it just seems to float nicely on top of the ship as if it was always meant to be there. I guess it’s kind of like a modern-day aircraft carrier, except that instead of housing hundreds of planes and helicopters, it holds one giant blimp.
