#13: Bert Hardy’s Son Being Photographed by Ming the Panda, London Zoo, 1938

Speaking of a person meeting an elephant seal on the street, here’s a picture of a panda taking a photo of a child. I’m starting to think that 1930s zoos are places that I would have liked to visit. Even if they were places with sometimes morally questionable practices, they seem to have been places with lots of crazy things going on.

I suppose the children at zoos behaved as they do now, dragging their parents from place to place and complaining of boredom while trying to goad the animals into performing for them. However, forcing the animals to photograph them does seem like quite an extreme measure to get the child to enjoy.
