#23: Who Knew Waffle House Was So Useful?
OK, I thought this next one was a joke, so I googled it, and it turns out that it is absolutely true. The Waffle House Index is an unofficial metric used by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) to gauge the level of disaster in an area.

Waffle Houses are open all day every day and don’t close except in the most dire of circumstances, so they’re a good, easy way to gauge how bad things are: if even the Waffle Houses are closed after an event, you know things are or about to get pretty serious.
