#29: Break a Leg!

Despite safety precautions on set, injuries are bound to happen while making a film. Viggo Mortensen, unfortunately, fell victim to injury while filming Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. In the scene where Viggo’s character Aragorn believes Merry and Pippin are dead, he kicks a helmet and falls to his knees in anguish.

Filmmakers later learned his cries of anguish were very, very real. Viggo broke his toe when he kicked the helmet! He maintained his composure and remained in character, which ended up being a saving grace for the scene. His pain was so well “acted” that they kept the take in the film’s final cut.
