Snapchat selfie filters became immediately popular when they first came into use. But what if those filters were not only about having good fun and sharing funny photos with friends? What if the entire feature was nothing but a plot by the NSA to store data for the sake of facial recognition?

That’s what this theorist claims about the seemingly benign filters that many people love to use. They claim that the NSA is behind the trend and uses it to get people to willingly share their faces. Apparently, the NSA then stores the information so that they can increase the potency of their surveillance.
