Best Picture nominees who lost at the 50th Academy Awards:

- Julia
- Star Wars
- The Turning Point
Setting aside Woody Allen’s troubling history of sexual misconduct, the once-beloved Annie Hall has lost its charm over time. What was once hailed as a whimsical romance between an erudite protagonist and a spirited woman now feels like Allen’s self-indulgent fantasy, especially as he cast himself as the lead character, Alvy Singer.

Even more damning are Alvy’s interactions with Annie, now recognized as instances of objectification and emotional manipulation. Allen’s own allegations of grooming only serve to further taint Alvy’s portrayal as a thinly veiled self-insert. With each passing year, Annie Hall’s Oscar legacy fades into darkness, overshadowed by the film’s increasingly negative reappraisal and Allen’s continued controversies.
