How He Earned the Name Scarface
Al Capone’s journey to the infamous nickname “Scarface” began when he worked as a bouncer at the Harvard-Inn under the guidance of his role model, Frankie Yale. Yale gave him the job after recognizing Capone’s aggressive nature and fiery temper. However, Capone’s habit of speaking his mind without restraint led to a fateful encounter one night.

He insulted a woman entering the club, unaware that her knife-wielding brother, Frank Galluccio, was there to defend her. In the ensuing altercation, Galluccio slashed Capone across the face three times, leaving him permanently scarred. The moniker “Scarface” was born that night, and Capone would forever hide the left side of his face.
