Slowly Deteriorating

During his time in prison, Al Capone’s health took a severe hit as he deteriorated rapidly. His once-formidable presence faded, and he became increasingly vulnerable. Fellow inmates, intrigued by the legend of Al “Scarface” Capone, initially acted as his protectors, but he was eventually transferred to Alcatraz, leaving him without their support.

In this new, harsh environment, Capone faced not only threats from other inmates but also the deterioration of his own health. The diseases he had contracted in his youth, especially syphilis, reached their peak during his imprisonment. Despite his fearsome reputation, Capone’s greatest enemy and eventual killer turned out to be his own failing health, which had been exacerbated by a lifetime of excess and neglect.
