The Rivalry Ensues
Capone found himself increasingly challenged by the North Side Gang, led by Bugs Moran. Despite his control over various aspects of the criminal world, Capone couldn’t shake off Moran’s persistent nuisance. As Valentine’s Day 1929 approached, Capone orchestrated a chilling message to Moran. Disguising his men as police officers, they raided one of Moran’s warehouses, cornering seven men against a wall before taking their lives.

The event, known as the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, horrified the public as gruesome images flooded the city, tarnishing Capone’s image. Despite his earlier charitable efforts during the Great Depression, people grew weary of his brutality and chaos, marking a turning point in public perception.
