Volcano Erupts in Taal, Philippines, Coating the Island in Brown Ashes

There are around 300 volcanos in the Philippines, about 20 of them active, while the rest are dormant. Taal Lake is located on Luzon, an island in the Philippines, about 50 kilometers from the capital city, Manila. In January 2020, the Taal Volcano – the second most active volcano in the country – erupted, pumping sludgy, wet, heavy ash over the entire island.

Despite the volcano’s relatively small size, this resulted in what became known as nothing less than an overhaul makeover for the island, which unfortunately turned to a light, grayish brown, much different from the lush green it’s used to wearing.
