#6: Shifting the Focus

The damage inflicted upon Pearl Harbor was undoubtedly a significant setback for America on that fateful day. However, despite the devastating losses, the U.S. Navy retained a considerable fleet of battleships and submarines at its disposal. In response to the attack, the Navy quickly shifted its focus to defending the U.S. mainland. This defensive stance led to intense sea conflicts with the Japanese in the Pacific.

Initially, these encounters took the form of basic raids as the U.S. sought to contain and counter Japanese expansion. As time passed and both sides reinforced their naval capabilities, these skirmishes escalated into full-fledged naval battles of immense significance. These battles marked the beginning of a hard-fought campaign in the Pacific theater, ultimately culminating in the United States regaining its naval superiority.
