Mom Always Comes First
“The day after my mom wasn’t feeling well, I decided to stay home with her as she needed care and further medical tests. I called out from work, leaving a message with our customer service desk, but soon after, a manager from a different department called to inquire why I called out. I explained that I needed to take care of my mom and gave her the medical details. However, the manager insisted that my mom was fine and that I should come in.”

“I tried to reason with her, but she continued to push, saying, “I’m sure your mom would rather you have a job to come back to.” In response, I said, “I can find another job, but I can’t find another mom. I’m staying home today to take care of my mom.” She eventually ended the conversation by saying we’d see each other the next day, to which I simply replied, “We’ll see how she’s doing,” and hung up.”
