Family Matters
“When my husband was experiencing complications before his gallbladder surgery, I needed to leave work early for about two hours to attend to the situation. However, my boss strongly objected to my leaving. I explained to her that I had accumulated 300 hours of sick time, which I could use for both myself and my husband. I also warned her that if she insisted on preventing me from leaving, I would take all of that sick time at once.”

“This would have meant that there would be no one but her to cover my job responsibilities. She threatened to fire me if I went through with it. Without hesitation, I told her that I had to go, and I would send her the doctor’s note as proof. In the end, I wasn’t fired, and I even received an award for job performance that year.”
