Don’t Hate the Player, Hate the Game
“During my first kitchen job, they promised that the more roles I learned, the higher my pay would be. Fast forward six months, and I had mastered every position except for one. They told me that if I learned that final spot, I’d get a raise. Feeling undervalued, I reminded them of their promise and stated that I could easily find another kitchen job, given my skills and dedication. They caved and offered me a raise, but I insisted that 50 cents more wasn’t sufficient. Reluctantly, they granted me another raise.”

“Just two weeks later, the banquet chef’s assistant was let go, and he was given the opportunity to choose his new assistant. He promptly requested me for the position. I made it clear that I expected yet another raise, but once again, they refused. So, without hesitation, I informed them of my intention to find a new job. The very next day, I handed in my two-week notice. In the end, I wound up earning more money in that kitchen than anyone else, except for the banquet chef and the head chef.”
