One of the Founding Teams of the NFL
The Kansas City Chiefs were initially founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans, playing in the American Football League (AFL). In 1963, owner Lamar Hunt moved the team to Kansas City and renamed them the Chiefs.

They became one of the most successful AFL teams, winning three league championships before the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. The Chiefs were part of the first-ever Super Bowl and later became the second AFL team to win a Super Bowl, defeating the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV.
