23. All the Calendars? All of Them?
In the teacher’s defense, counting centuries is very counterintuitive in how it’s designed, but the reason is not the one given (however hilarious it would be if it was the truth). Most of us know that the 1900s were technically the twentieth century, despite it being a little weird. But if you’re wondering why, we are here to clear that up!

As it turns out, it’s simply because we’re counting from 1, rather than 0. So the year 1 CE to the year 101 CE was the first century, 101 CE to 201 CE was the second century, and so on and so forth. If you’re still confused, think of it this way: the century you’re in is the end of the century rather than the current (The twentieth century is the twentieth century because it ends in the year 2000).
