11. Didn’t You Hear? It’s Actually Flat

It used to be a common misconception, so the teacher can be somewhat forgiven for this one. It wasn’t so much that Columbus was trying to prove that the planet was round as it was that he didn’t know about the existence of America and thought he could sail all the way to India by going around.

As it stands, we now live in a world that is a result of his actions, for good or bad. But, yes, it had already been figured out that the world was round by the time he had set sail, and hopefully, teachers will be better educated in the future to better educate students. What are the odds of it? Well… let’s not think about that.
