#48: Nope.

Yes, that’s an actual building on top of a mountain, in the middle of nowhere. Why, you ask? What could motivate someone to build this? The view, of course. This is The Aiguille du Midi (Needle of the Noon) in France, and it’s a well-known tourist attraction.

This was no easy feat. In fact, it was planned and abandoned for years and rebuilt several times before finally closing down in 1951, only to reopen in 1991 after a complete renovation. This mountain peak attraction holds the world record for the highest ascending cable car, and it brings tourists from the bottom to the top, traversing 2,807 meters.
